CCF Scholarship Season Reminding Us of the Importance of Building Resources for the Future

Allison Carroll Forever 14 Scholarship 2023 Winners Ella Jacobs and Will Ervin

When you think of building resources for the future, do you think of students being trained for our future work force? The costs of college and trade school education continues to rise, causing additional need for financial assistance. According to ThinkImpact, 55% of college students struggle to find financial support for their studies. Consequently, 51% of college dropouts leave because of the lack of money. Unlike a student loan, scholarships are a favored means for assistance because they do not require repayment. Keeping students in school increases the opportunities for higher wages and strengthens our workforce and communities. But creating a new scholarship from scratch takes time and know how. The Cobb Community Foundation has the knowledge and the structure in place to create new scholarship funds, enabling generous community members to fill in those gaps.

CCF manages scholarship programs offered by local individuals, groups and companies. Eligibility is different among the programs, but all must follow strict rules outlined by the IRS. Only halfway through the 2023 scholarship season, CCF has awarded more than $37,000 in scholarships to deserving students through these established funds. Director of Donor Relations, Dana Floyd works closely with 16 different scholarship programs ensuring the integrity of the process.

“I love reading these young peoples’ stories. They give me hope for the future.” – Dana Floyd
