Melissa W. Gilbert, a member of GDCR’s Trust, Estate & Tax Section, attended Georgia State University College of Law and Florida State University.
Early in her career, Gilbert worked in probate and fiduciary litigation before transitioning into estate planning and administration. Having seen firsthand the financial hardships, family conflict, and unintended consequences that can result from inadequate planning, she became passionate about helping families prepare thoughtfully for the future.
“I enjoy helping people work through sometimes difficult, but important planning issues,” Gilbert shared. “After working in litigation on the other side of estate planning, I am confident of the value being provided through our practice. Earning my clients’ trust is my highest goal.”
Gilbert joined the Cobb Community Foundation Professional Advisor Network in 2022 to connect with fellow advisors committed to serving the community. A longtime volunteer and engaged community member, she was drawn to the Foundation’s local impact and appreciated the opportunity to partner with an organization that helps families maximize their charitable giving close to home.
That connection became personal when Gilbert and her family received proceeds from the estate of her late parents. Wanting to honor their parents’ community-minded legacy, the family established a charitable giving fund through Cobb Community Foundation.
Today, Gilbert works diligently to carry out each client’s wishes with care and precision, helping make the planning process as smooth and thoughtful as possible. Reducing tax burdens and helping families avoid unnecessary conflict remain central to her work. When conversations turn toward charitable giving, she also takes time to educate clients about the benefits of partnering with Cobb Community Foundation for tax-efficient, community-focused philanthropy.
