Have you ever thought that simply walking alongside someone could be life-changing? At Circles Cobb, that’s exactly what Allies do. Allies don’t “fix problems”—they build authentic friendships, celebrating wins, navigating setbacks, and sharing experiences and social capital that open doors to new opportunities.
Circles Cobb recently celebrated its second graduating cohort, where eleven participants completed a 12-week training in financial literacy—budgeting, goal-setting, and personal development. After graduation, each participant is paired with two volunteer Allies who walk with them for the next 18 months, offering what many systems don’t: encouragement, accountability, and genuine connection.
The results speak for themselves. Since launching in August 2023, Circles Cobb’s first cohort achieved an average 75% income increase—from $23,124 to $40,572 in just 18 months. That’s financial empowerment in action.
How Allies Make a Difference
Allies do more than send texts of encouragement. They:
- Check in on goals and celebrate progress
- Provide support through challenges
- Lend practical help—like moving furniture, helping with a resume, or completing college applications.
It’s this pairing—two Allies with each participant over time—that creates lasting change. Allies listen, guide, and help open doors, walking side-by-side through difficulties to help a family move from striving to thriving. The time commitment is just two Tuesday nights a month. Dinner and childcare are provided.
