Cobb Community Foundation and United Way Award Nonprofits Capacity Building Fundamentals Cohort

Cobb Community Foundation (CCF), in conjunction with United Way of Greater Atlanta – NW Region is pleased to announce that grants of $5,000 each have been awarded to Connecting Generations, Self-Discovery, Pain, Positioning and Purpose, Inc., JJ’s Playhouse Children’s Museum & Gym, H.O.P.E. Family Resource Center, Inc., Family Car Foundation, and The Sobriety Resource.  These capacity building grants will allow each organization to participate in a 27-week Nonprofits Capacity Building Cohort offered through Georgia Center for Nonprofits (GCN).  The program was specifically designed to provide education, training and consulting to help strengthen and support small to midsized organizations and includes a stipend in recognition of the significant time commitment required.

This is the second round of grants awarded to help organizations reach their next level and is the result of an in-depth study commissioned in 2019 by CCF in partnership with United Way and The Cobb Collaborative. The data collected through the study, the Cobb Human Services Needs Assessment, was used to create heat maps showing varying levels of need throughout the county overlaid with nonprofit locations.  CCF has since been following a carefully planned approach to fill the visible service gaps with a focus on South Cobb. According to Catherine Gankofskie, Grants Manager for CCF, “Our goal is to help build capacity in those organizations that have ‘boots on the ground’ in the areas that have the greatest needs.”

“We are so excited to see these growing agencies get support for the work they are doing to strengthen their programs and broaden their reach. The areas in which they are operating are those identified in 2019 as needing the most help. Since the pandemic, those needs have only increased. By helping these organizations build their capacity, they will be able to serve more people and have an even greater long-term impact in Cobb.” – Catherine Gankofskie, CCF.

We look forward to seeing these organizations grow from their experience with the Georgia Center for Nonprofits Capacity Building Cohort Grant.
