Setting Up Children for Success: Kim Gresh & SA White Oil | Difference-Maker

What Happens When Early Learning Is Out of Reach?

What happens when children don’t have access to the early learning they need to succeed?

For many in Cobb County, that gap shapes everything that comes next—confidence in the classroom, stability for families, economic mobility, and workforce development.

That’s where early learning makes the difference.

Kim Gresh, Owner and President of SA White Oil Company, has long believed that investing in early learning is one of the most practical ways to strengthen a community. Through SA White Oil’s participation in Cobb Community Foundation’s Corporate Community Champion program, Kim is helping invest in solutions that support children at the very start of their educational journey.

Fast Start Literacy Academy

One example is Fast Start Literacy Academy at Kennesaw State University—a four-week summer program supported by Cobb Community Foundation and designed for elementary students reading below grade level.

The program provides:

  • Daily, structured literacy instruction
  • Small group learning environments
  • Multiple teachers in each classroom for individualized support
  • A consistent, encouraging setting that builds both skills and confidence

What makes the program especially impactful is its dual benefit: while young students strengthen foundational reading skills, college students pursuing education and social work degrees gain meaningful, hands-on classroom experience working directly with learners.

Students follow structured daily routines and receive personalized attention, helping them not only improve academically but also build confidence in their abilities.

The results are clear: 75% of Fast Start Academy students returned to school reading at higher levels.

“When you support early learning, you’re not just helping a child—you’re strengthening families, future employees, and the entire community,” Kim shared.

Why the Corporate Community Champion Model Matters

SA White Oil—and other Corporate Community Champion partners—make this kind of progress possible.

Their collective support allows funding to go where it’s needed most, including:

  • Early learning initiatives like Fast Start Literacy Academy
  • Community-wide efforts like Match Magic, supporting 25+ local nonprofits
  • Events that bring people together
  • Strategic grantmaking across Cobb County
  • The operational support that enables Cobb Community Foundation to grow and serve effectively

For Kim, this work reflects a deep and ongoing commitment to the community she calls home. As a business leader and engaged community member, she continues to seek thoughtful, practical ways to invest in Cobb County’s future.

Good Deeds. Great Business.
