Since its incorporation in 1965, Life Foundation has grown into a trusted and respected nonprofit based in Marietta, Georgia. Originally established to promote chiropractic research and education, the foundation has evolved into a far-reaching organization dedicated to enhancing the lives of young people through education, wellness, leadership development, and spiritual growth. Now, Life Foundation is taking the next step in expanding its impact by establishing a fund with Cobb Community Foundation (CCF) to provide even more support to college students in need.
“We’re the only nonprofit in the country that is dedicated solely to serving the college student community,” said Dr. Kim Williams, CEO of Life Foundation. “As far as I know, there’s nowhere else students can go to obtain free products like household goods, school supplies, food, or even holiday decorations. The only requirement is to possess a valid college ID and a current schedule.
This unique mission is why Life Foundation is such a valuable partner for CCF. The organization’s mission aligns with CCF’s broader goal of supporting the Cobb County community by connecting people and resources. For Life Foundation, this partnership represents an opportunity to reach more students and, importantly, create lasting relationships within the local philanthropic community.
A Commitment to Helping College Students
Life Foundation’s mission is straightforward: to invest in future leaders by supporting their educational and personal needs. The organization has made this mission a reality by offering a variety of services, from small but impactful grants to tangible items like furniture and food. The foundation’s services aren’t just about financial support; they’re about ensuring that students have the tools to succeed, both academically and in life.
One of Life Foundation’s flagship programs is its $1,000 grants. These are available to any student in any program at any college, with no tax implications. “We wanted to make it as simple as possible,” said Dr. Kim. “100% of the grant goes directly to the student, and we don’t judge based on their financial background. If they need help, they qualify.”
Beyond financial assistance, Life Foundation tackles the everyday challenges that often go unnoticed but can be overwhelming to students. Through partnerships with local companies, the organization stocks its warehouse with items that many students struggle to afford. Dr. Kim herself has been known to personally deliver furniture, like desks and chairs, to students in need. “People need simple things to get by, like a chair with casters so they can work at a desk on their computers. The majority of the students that we serve are working to support their families and attending college at the same time. Most times the ends don’t meet. We have also had students who are homeless and don’t have enough food to eat – some live in their cars or under stairways and are too embarrassed to tell anyone” Dr. Kim said.
How You Can Help
As Life Foundation continues to grow and expand its services, the need for community support is more critical than ever. The foundation is always seeking donations, whether it’s financial contributions or in-kind gifts like furniture, clothing, school supplies, or even holiday decorations. The impact of these donations is immediately visible in the lives of students.
Life Foundation also welcomes volunteers, particularly during the holiday season when the need for food and essential items skyrockets. “When donated, we distribute turkeys and hams to make sure students can have a holiday meal, and provide winter gloves and hats for cold weather” Dr. Kim shared. “People don’t always realize how much students need, but the need is there — and we’re doing everything we can to meet that need.”
By joining forces with Cobb Community Foundation, Life Foundation is creating new avenues for support and shining a light on the needs of local college students.
