When students are diagnosed with Dyslexia, parents must make decisions on how to best help them to be successful learners. The idea for GRACEPOINT School in Marietta was developed in 2012 by two moms who were deeply committed to providing a better option for their own dyslexic kids. With very few options available, and none within reasonable driving distance of their homes, they came up with a “big crazy dream.” They decided to create a school in Cobb County specializing in educating dyslexic learners. Their Christian faith was an integral part of their journey putting together all the building blocks for the new school and was the inspiration for the name GRACEPOINT. The first semester, they opened with only 4 students. Today, they have 134 students and welcome families from all faith traditions.
Currently located in a freestanding building on the grounds of the Piedmont Baptist Church in Marietta, they have reached their maximum capacity. The GRACEPOINT Board of Directors and Administration have been actively pursuing new property as they have long recognized the potential for growth and the need for more space. After much searching, GRACEPOINT purchased the former MUST Ministries building located at 1407 Cobb Parkway in April. Renovations will take place in 2023 with a projected open date in January 2024. They look forward to this move which will allow expansion for an exceptional school, one that brings out the brilliance of the dyslexic learner while restoring hope to students and their families.
The leadership at GRACEPOINT learned the benefits of being a fundholder at Cobb Community Foundation when board member Molly Holm attended one of our Nonprofits Making a Difference Bus Tour. She learned how nonprofit agencies can benefit from the visibility our funds have with donors in Cobb County. Being included in a Bus Tour is just one of the ways we are communicating with potential donors about the organizations in our community that are providing the resources essential to helping our neighbors in and around Cobb County to thrive!
