A Note From The Y Little School at The Church at Green Acres

We recently received an uplifting note from Gayle Battersby at the McCleskey-East Cobb Family YMCA, our community partner at the Y Little School Camp held at the Church at Green Acres.

“I just wanted to share one of the stories of the impact of the donation you gave us for our Y Little School Camp this summer. There are many more that I could share because this donation made a difference to ALL 14 kids that were enrolled for 4 weeks.”

Gayle shared that one child in particular made a lot of progress. On the first day of school, the teachers reported that little Sofia came in crying because she didn’t want to be away from mom or with strangers. As the morning went on Sofia became more engaged and stopped crying.

Gayle said, “We worked on spelling their names the first day of Little School Camp. Sofia could not spell her name. She was shy.  But by the end of the four weeks, Sofia was making friends, coming into class with a smile, and she now could spell her name with pride.

This is a great start toward being successful in Kindergarten.  Thank you, Cobb Community Foundation, for your donation to make a difference in the lives of the families we serve.”

We are grateful to the YMCA for their role in bringing this program to children at The Church at Green Acres. This is another reason why we do what we do. Investing in the education of the littlest members of our community is just one way we are helping our community to thrive.
