Cobb Community Foundation (CCF) welcomes new fundholders, Amber and Jarrette Burckhalter, who chose to make their donor advised fund (DAF) with CCF the hub for their charitable giving.
Amber and Jarrette are active, involved members of the Cobb community. In addition to their roles as successful business owners, they are passionate about their volunteer and church involvement. When they recently sold one of their businesses, they knew right away that a portion of the sale would be used to continue their work in the community.
“Giving our time, treasure and talents is central to who we are, and so we decided this check would be the first one we would write. Since this fund is created for growth, we can continue making gifts into the future in the kind of meaningful way we have not been able to do before. That’s what was so beneficial about creating a fund through CCF. It’s exciting to be able to give with impact,” said Jarrette.
Both Jarrette and Amber learned early on the value of helping others overcome difficult circumstances. Over the years, the couple has supported many different kinds of charities. “We have always made a point to give, but we never had a plan for giving. One of the advantages of creating this fund was the additional planning time it gave us,” shared Amber.
There are a lot of time-consuming activities that take place around selling a business. But it only took 10 minutes to set up their donor advised fund on the CCF website. And now their charitable giving decisions can happen on their own time table. In the meantime, they’ve secured their charitable deduction when they need it most. They know they can pick up the phone to call the CCF team to learn more about community needs and that CCF will let them know about urgent needs as well. When they decide to make a gift they can go to our online donor portal to request a grant, or give us a call.
“We didn’t even know this existed,” said Jarrette. When they contacted CCF about creating their giving fund (also known as DAF), they mentioned that fellow Leadership Cobb alum, Brett McClung, suggested they reach out. And they were pleased to learn just how easy it was to work with CCF to meet their goals.
