Welcome The Luke Project/LukeCamp Fund

We welcome our newest agency fund holder, The Luke Project, an organization founded by Jeff and Norita Gorman in 2001. Jeff served with World Relief, Inc. out of West End Baptist Chapel in West End, Atlanta which halted its efforts after September 2001 (9/11). What at first seemed to be a tragic abandonment of children with significant educational and spiritual needs instead became a calling. Jeff felt led by God to continue to minister to the children through a new organization. Drawing on his significant entrepreneurial experience that started at age 7 selling vegetables in the neighborhood and collecting sticks and pinecones for his father.

Jeff prayerfully filed for 501(c)3 status and drew a board of directors together. Just months later, in November of 2001, The Luke Project, Inc. was formed to help children discover God’s plan for their lives and grow into productive citizens through tutoring, sports and summer day camp.

The Luke Project offers opportunities for underserved children ages 7-14 to participate in a 9-week summer day camp for underserved children living in Southwest Cobb and West Atlanta. Their strategic initiatives include summer camp, adventure trips, job exploration, leadership development and life camps for children also on break during the school year.

The Luke Project hires and trains amazing staff who meet for breakfast each morning with the campers and then depart on field trips which include biking, job exploration, museum tours, community service, hiking, basic life skill classes, visiting parks, budget planning, crafts, pottery painting, Braves games, a tour of Dobbins Air Force base and more all located in Atlanta and the surrounding areas.

They believe that relationships equal influence and foster this through team building games, fun activities, field trips to new destinations each day along with small group discussions themed around life principles and virtues found in scripture.

Campers age 10+ who demonstrate excellent behavior, complete their daily assignments, participate in one community service project and attend day camp are eligible to attend a week-long overnight reward trip at LukeCamp in Big Canoe.

Jeff and his team have taken the steps to grow their reach from West Atlanta to Southwest Cobb and we are blessed to have him and his team as a part of our Cobb Community Foundation family!
