“You are here because you are leaders in the community, you care about the community and you need to know what’s going on at Wellstar”. This is how Shari Martin, CCF executive director, addressed a group of over forty CCF fundholders, donors, board members, and guests who gathered for a VIP donor event hosted by WellStar at Kennestone Hospital on July 11th. These community leaders came together to learn more about Kennestone’s new 162,000 square foot emergency department and were given a sneak peek tour of the department, which broke ground in September of 2018 after nine years of planning.
This addition, scheduled to open in spring of 2020, will push Kennestone Hospital’s emergency department to the top five emergency departments by size, with the second highest volume of visits in the U.S. Dr. Nancy Doolittle, Executive Director of Nursing, Emergency Services & Clinical Decision Unit, shared a few of the planned patient focused improvements; separate entrances and areas for pediatric patients, treating sick families in dedicated family rooms, streamlined multi-lobby processing, and a dedicated floor for behavioral health patients to name a few.
Kennestone Hospital president, Mary Chatman, summed up the partnership between CCF and WellStar by saying, “we don’t have to be the same person, but we do have to be here for the right reasons.” This opportunity for WellStar and CCF to partner was the right reason for these community leaders to come together to learn about some of the amazing initiatives happening in our community.
Special thanks to Cheryl Musial, CFF fundholder and partner as well as WellStar board vice chair, for helping to make this idea for a partnership a reality.
